I have come to visit
many times
Wish you could talk
but
you know
what
it really isn’t necessary
I
can
hear you
just
by looking
You have had
quite
a
time
growing
struggling
stretching
fighting to survive
surviving
twisting
giving birth to branches
to
leaves
to harboring birds
and
others
to watching the world
transform
around
you
to
listening at night
to
soaking
in
the sunshine
to
drinking
the
rain
What could I
possibly learn
from
you
more so
than
strength
I wish
there
was
something
I could give
to you
Maybe some
food
for your
roots
Maybe
I
can
pick
off
some of those
insects
that
prey
on
you
If
I
stay here
you
would
never leave
my
side
You
are
that
loyal
Staunch
Beautiful
Constant
All in one
This tree
is
so
magnificent
Sometimes
I
think
a tree
like you
puts us
all to shame
Today
I
see a teacher
with
her young students
around
the tree
Over 20 kids
She asks:
“What does
this
tree
say
to
you?”
A couple
of
the kids
see me
look at me
look
back
at
the
tree
see
the easel
aside
me
“Mister,
you
drawing
a picture
of
the
tree?”
I am speechless
A little girl comes and looks
“There’s nothing there…”
“I haven’t been able
to
start
just yet.”
“Oh. Well, maybe you’re not supposed to!”
