He dusted off the front porch
hosed
the few steps leading to it
and
laid out
the welcome mat
perfectly
He closed the front door
but
stood on the other
side
in anticipation
A small band
marched in step
playing
lighthearted music
and
one
upon reaching
the front door
took off her hat
and
pressed
the doorbell
He laid down
got
very comfortable
and
in
they
came
Looking at him
some
with
a
tear
others
a sigh
all with a sense of kindness
and
mercy
“Away!”
they said
in unison
and
out they took him
like
a King upon
a
throne
(but lying down)
Neighbors
on
the sidewalk
waved
“Bon Voyage!”
they
seemed
to
be
saying
And sail he did
Sail
he
did
“Look, he
left
a
note”
one
of his children
said
“Well
please
read
it”
“This is the greatest journey
of all
and
I
will
check
everything out,
every
thing,
and
be in touch
if
there
is
any thing
any
thing
at
all
to be concerned
about!”
They never
heard
from
him
Each felt assured
each
had
faith
That is
how
it
works
That is
how
it
works
